In My Mailbox (14) - It's not really cheating if it's free!

IMM is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. The goal of IMM is to bring new books to bloggers' attention and to encourage interaction between blogs.

Official rules can be found here.

I'm sure many of us have made one or both of the following (foolish but well intentioned) resolutions for the new year:
  1. I will seriously limit the number of new books I buy this year
  2. I will read mainly books from my TBR shelf
Well, if you didn't, I did. And it might look like I'm on my way to failing miserably, but I don't think it should count if the books were free. :)

Starlighter (Dragons of Starlight #1) by Bryan Davis
Goodreads Summary:
Jason Masters doubted the myths that told of people taken through a portal to another realm and enslaved by dragons. But when he receives a cryptic message from his missing brother, he must uncover the truth and find the portal before it's too late. At the same time, Koren, a slave in the dragons' realm, discovers she has a gift that could either save or help doom her people. As Jason and Koren work to rescue the enslaved humans, a mystic prophecy surrounding a black egg may make all their efforts futile.

The Blood That Binds by Christopher Buecheler
Goodreads Summary:
Two is trapped: hooked on heroin, held as property, forced to sell her body to feed the addiction. Time brings her ever closer to what seems an inevitable death and Two waits, uncaring, longing only for the next fix.

That’s when Theroen arrives, beckoning to his Ferrari and grinning his inscrutable grin. He is handsome. Confident. Eager to help lift her out of the life that’s grinding her down.

The only problem? Theroen is a vampire.

His blood can cure her addiction, grant her powers she has never had, change her forever into something greater than she was. But when he sinks his teeth into her neck, Theroen also thrusts Two into a world of danger, violence, madness and despair. The powerful, twisted elder Abraham will use her arrival to shatter the uneasy peace that exists in his mansion, bringing an end to the dark game he has been playing for centuries.
Well, I have no explanation for the next one. It looked good at 1:00 a.m., not so much now.

Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch (Montana Mystique) by BJ Daniels
Goodreads Summary:
After Hudson Savage betrayed her, Dana Cardwell hoped never to lay eyes on the seductive cowboy again. Until a bunch of old bones showed up on her family ranch. Suddenly her former lover was back in her life in a big way-to investigate a decades-old crime.
Five years ago, Hud left town with a heart load of regrets. But now, as acting interim marshal, he had a job to do. And this time he wasn't walking away. Because now Dana's life was on the line-as the unsuspecting target of a killer who still walked the canyon. Hud would do whatever it took to keep Dana close. Even if it meant risking his own heart for a second chance for both of them....

And this one shouldn't count either because it was a pre-order. (I thoroughly enjoy this series)

Mercy Blade (Jane Yellowrock, #3) by Faith Hunter
Goodreads Summary:
Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker − and a vampire killer for hire. But lately she’s found herself taking blood money from the very vampires she used to hunt...
Things are heating up in the Big Easy. Weres have announced their existence tot he world, and revived the bitter tensions that run between them and their old enemies: vampires. As a trusted employee of Leo Pellissier, Blood Master of the City, Jane finds herself caught in the cross fire.
When Jane is attacked by a pack of marauding were-wolves, she is thankful for the help of a mysterious stranger named Girrard. He explains that he used to be Leo’s “Mercy Blade,” a sacred position charged with killing vampires who have gone insane. What Jane doesn’t know is why this powerful assassin left New Orleans − or, more troubling, why he’s now returned. It’s definitely not to make Jane’s life easier...
What did you get this week?

Ooo, I'm jealous - you've got Mercy Blade! I really want that as Jane Yellowrock is one of my favourite heroines! Hope you enjoy all your haul - I made similar resolutions at the start of year as well! Failing as well... :)

Wow, the cover for The Blood that Binds is really creepy. I'm guessing that's the point though, so mission accomplished:) Starlighter looks really interesting, looking forward to your thoughts on that one!

Lady Constance swept into the room as giddy and foolish as ever. To look at her, you would think that nothing unpleasant had ever happened in the whole history of England.
